Oh, and as you can see, still no glasses :(
We have Three (3) pairs coming in this week, so we should be cool soon. Including a hard- to-break-but-Mooner-dislikes because they have a nose piece thing pair...

So yesterday Moon and I paid a visit to "very helpful optician man". We brought him the broken glasses and I was already feeling really self-conscious because the "very rude optician lady" gave me the evil eye about being in there AGAIN with broken glasses. I think she doesn't like children.
Anyhow, "very helpful optician man" took one look at the glasses and said, "this isn't working, is it"? I instantly felt like crying, because he was being understanding (WTF is with these damaged emotions anyhow?). Moon then tried on a million more glasses and found some that almost work and he thought that he had a brand all figured out, but then realized that they don't make it small enough. As my dear friend Adrienne says, "Seen this Movie...".
He validated our crappy situation, told us we were in between a rock and a hard place, sympathized with Moon being so young and having a big responsibility, then continued to try to help us! He ended up ordering several pairs of somewhat flexible glasses in the smallest sizes to see if any of them will work. Totally nice and way above and beyond. Three cheers for "very helpful optician man"! I even called my mom when we left. So you know I was impressed.

Hey Look! Broken glasses again.
I had actually ordered her second pair this morning, after much deliberation with very helpful optician. It turns out that there really aren't any flexible frames that will fit Moon! None. Isn't that awesome how they make these flexible frame glasses for children, but not toddlers?? Perfectly logical, as far as I can reason.
I love spending $250 on another pair of glasses that she will break every 24-48 hours. The good news is that it's the same break as last time and I know it can be fixed with another order of "parts".

Moon's original glasses have returned to us! She's adjusted again to wearing them, but still needs 20 minute breaks from them a few times a day...I don't really know if this is normal, but I really can't stand the screeching tantrums either.
Now, as far as an update on those "internet" glasses goes... well, it's not going. After I placed an order for express shipping on these glasses, we had to provide prescription verification (which they never even requested, I happened to read on the "order status" page!!!!!!!), then a price increase, then a week later, the Cancellation. Apparently the frame is discontinued. I am not surprised after how long it took to even process the order! Idiots.

Still no glasses here. It's such a bummer that Moon is going to have to go through the adjustment again. I am also totally irritated at the "internet" company I ordered from with Express FedEx shipping. I checked the status of her order and it is awaiting prescription verification...For the Love of all things Holy...why?

Witness the horror...
Around 24 hours after Mooner got her glasses, she broke them. This is no surprise to us, however, replacing/repairing them is a terrible joke. I have ordered her a new pair over the dubious "internet" and taken this pair in to be repaired. This, of course, involves ordering Parts. Sigh.

So today Moon has only taken her glasses off once. I think that she loves being able to see, thank goodness. Yesterday was a bit more rough. It was a real trip watching her right after putting on the glasses. She sat and quietly cried for an hour. I couldn't really help her and I felt so damn sad. I think that she was just totally blown away by the experience. I really can't imagine how she felt. Today she is a wild animal, doing all the things she usually does, but with a little more interest. I will be posting a bit about her vision problems later, just because I knew so little and would love to share this with other people who may not know much either.

Smoothies. and Bars.
First, it's the boobie. Second, it's the Smoothie. Third, it's the Bar.
The boobie is self explanitory as "food of choice". Moon isn't really a fan of solids yet (and she is two????), but in order to give my poor boobies a bit of a break, we introduced the smoothie. Here is what it is comprised of (all organic) :
Half of a can of coconut milk
1 cup of plain, whole milk yogurt
1/2 cup frozen berries
1/2 cup frozen peaches or mangos or more berries
1 ripe banana
4-6 leaves of kale
small handful of baby spinach leaves
1/4 cup parsley
pineapple juice and water to texture
add in's of whey protein powder or liquid vitamins
One batch of smoothie lasts one or two days, depending on how much "bar" is consumed.
I have estimated that this smoothie costs $5-$7 a day!!!!
I am also considering adding a raw egg, since Moon still is really not into eating solids and I am worried about her little body getting what it needs.
Let's follow with a quick and embarrassing confession about "bar". This is the one regular solid food Moon will eat and is largely JUNK. Clif Bars for kids (junk), Odwalla bars, etc. She LOVES these things and my homemade versions don't measure up.
I will end with a disclaimer that I make Moon 3 meals a day of regular food. She just rarely will eat it, unless she is going through a growth spurt. If we don't offer smoothie, she will just want to nurse or not eat and get very cranky. sigh.
I love you Mooner, smoothie and bar preferences, and all.

So here we go, attempting to keep up with this new (old) blog.
I love the idea of keeping track of goals, etc. in blog form, so here goes:
Our New Years Goals in the Moon house include
1. Cutting down the grocery budget! Seriously.
2. Taking better care of our dental health. Weird, but necessary, since we have no dental insurance.
3. Limiting plastics in our house. Recycling what does come in.
4. Greening our house where we can.
5. Save money. I would love to add a couple grand to the savings this year.
This is how we are doing so far.
1. Me and some other mama's have started a local buying club. Ideally, this will cut back the budget some, right? I have been keeping track of how much money we spend on groceries and eating out, coffee, etc. We have also been planning the garden early, so that we can really get a lot out of it.
2. We got a sonicare toothbrush. I love it, P is not the biggest fan.
Moon is happy to brush 3 or 10 times a day, so she's good. But I still worry that her teeth aren't really strong. She is also a fan of flossing, which keeps me flossing more often too.
3. We recycled nearly all "tupperware" type containers to the goodwill, donated most of Moon's plastic toys (we kept a few, of course). I haven't purchased things because they were plastic or polyester. That feels right.
4. This one we could really use some improvement on. We just started the process of using rain barrels for our downspouts. Other than that, I don't think we have gotten far. Oh, I guess we got our carpets cleaned by a "green" company.
5. The savings is not going. Moons eye doctor and glasses are going to eat that up for the next couple of months. But it's cool. She's worth it.
